What's happening
B12 and folate are both required for DNA methylation and red blood cell formation. Supplementing folate alone can mask B12 deficiency by correcting anemia while allowing neurological damage to progress — always co-supplement.
Recommendation
When taking folate (especially >400mcg), always include 500-1000mcg B12. Prefer methylfolate + methylcobalamin for MTHFR variants.
