Evidence-based stress tools

What actually builds resilience — beyond 'just relax'.

The tools that hold up

Plenty of stress advice is vague. Here are the interventions with the strongest evidence behind them — most of which do double duty for sleep, mood, and brain health.

High-evidence stress reducers

  • Exercise — one of the most effective stress reducers, burning off stress hormones and building resilience.
  • Nature & daylight — time outdoors lowers cortisol and improves mood, even in small doses.
  • Social connection — strong relationships are among the biggest buffers against stress and a top longevity predictor.
  • Sleep — both a casualty of stress and one of its best antidotes.
  • Mindfulness / meditation — trains the ability to notice and step back from stress reactions.
  • Boundaries & planning — reducing the inputs (overcommitment, doomscrolling) beats only managing the output.
Connection

Strong social relationships are one of the most powerful predictors of long-term health and longevity — rivaling classic risk factors — and a major buffer against the effects of stress.
