C8 MCT Oil Powder
Also known as: Caprylic Acid MCT, C8 caprylic acid powder, pure C8 MCT
C8 MCT oil powder is a specialized form containing primarily caprylic acid (8-carbon medium-chain triglyceride), the most rapidly metabolized MCT chain length. It is marketed as the most efficient MCT variant for ketone production and quick energy.
Primary uses
- rapid ketone body production
- quick energy in fasting/ketogenic states
- cognitive performance
- athletic recovery
How it works
- fastest hepatic oxidation among MCTs due to C8 chain length
- maximal ketone body production in low-carb states
- minimal pathway intermediate storage
Dosage
- Typical range
- 5-15g (1-3 teaspoons) daily
- Timing
- morning on empty stomach or pre-workout for maximal ketone production; can divide dose
- With food
- best taken fasting or with minimal carbohydrates for ketone effect; fat with meals reduces relative advantage
- Duration
- continuous use is safe; GI tolerance typically improves with consistent use
- Special populations
- Start with 5g due to potency; those new to MCTs prone to GI distress should begin lower; individuals with liver disease, uncontrolled diabetes, or metabolic disorders should consult provider
Forms
- powder· 70/100
Safety
Common side effects
- gastrointestinal distress
- loose stools
- diarrhea
- nausea at higher doses
Contraindications
- severe liver disease
- uncontrolled diabetes
- medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD) deficiency
Evidence notes
While MCTs generally show good evidence (Grade B), pure C8 products have more limited direct comparative research versus mixed-MCT oils. Some evidence suggests C8 may be more ketogenic than C10/C12, but clinical significance is modest. Most studies use mixed MCT blends.
Grade C: Mostly observational or small trials; mechanism is plausible but unproven at scale.
