St John's wort (Hypericum perforatum): drug interactions and clinical outcomes
Acosta-Rodriguez et al. · Nat Immunol, 2007
Key finding
As of December 2001: 7 UK unintended pregnancies and 2 Sweden unintended pregnancies attributed to SJW + OC co-use. All nine documented pregnancy cases involved women using OCs without problems for >= 7 months before starting SJW — strengthening temporal attribution. Multiple cases of breakthrough bleeding also reported to UK and Swedish agencies.
