Subtle changes in thyroid indices during a placebo-controlled study of an extract of Withania somnifera in persons with bipolar disorder

All 3 ashwagandha patients with thyroid changes had Free T4 increases of 7%, 12.1%, and 23.7% from baseline. 6 of 7 placebo patients had T4 decreases (3.9-23.3%). Between-group difference was not statistically significant, but direction of effect was consistent.
