Astragalus membranaceus Extract (Cycloastragenol 10%)

Also known as: Cycloastragenol, Astragalus root extract, Astragaloside IV, Huang qi extract

C
Evidence

Cycloastragenol is a triterpene compound derived from Astragalus membranaceus root that has been studied for potential telomerase activation and longevity support. Evidence remains preliminary with limited human clinical trials.

Primary uses

  • Cellular aging and longevity support
  • Immune function support
  • Telomerase activity

How it works

  • Proposed telomerase activator (may support telomere length maintenance)
  • Immunomodulatory effects
  • Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways

Dosage

Typical range
10-50 mg cycloastragenol content daily (varies by product concentration)
Timing
With or without food; morning or evening
With food
Not critical; may be taken with meals for GI comfort
Duration
Long-term safety data in humans is limited; studies typically range 8-12 weeks
Special populations
Avoid during pregnancy/lactation; limited safety data in children

Forms

  • Standardized extract capsule· 70/100
  • 10% cycloastragenol concentration· 70/100

Safety

Common side effects

  • Generally well-tolerated
  • Rare: mild GI upset, nausea

Contraindications

  • Autoimmune disease (immunostimulant potential)
  • Pregnancy and lactation (insufficient safety data)
  • Organ transplant recipients (may interfere with immunosuppression)

Evidence notes

Most evidence is from in vitro and animal studies. Human clinical trials on cycloastragenol specifically are very limited. Traditional use of Astragalus is well-documented, but isolated cycloastragenol data in humans is insufficient for higher grading.

Grade C: Mostly observational or small trials; mechanism is plausible but unproven at scale.
